Wynpûster

Full of pride, on 13 November 2021, together with my mate Johan de Vries, picked up the barge from Gauw.

How proud we are. Wynpûster is the name of our new barge. Well as you can see, it is not exactly new but this is just what we are looking for. A historic Frisian barge that fits in perfectly with our fleet. This barge dates from about 1900 and has been ‘riveted’, welding was not done back then.

The next few weeks will see a lot of work to make Wynpûster as beautiful and safe as her teammate Grutte Pier. Hopefully, in the spring, we will be able to make nice trips through the Dokkumer canals again without too many measures.

Barge on dry land

Before she goes into the shed on 27 December 2021 but just drilled a hole in it to let all the water drain out and then clean the inside.

Cold job

Cold job to do in December of 2022 but tar chipping goes best below zero. It splashes off.

TEER BIKKEN

Koud klusje maar teer bikken gaat het best onder nul. Het spat eraf.

Hull inspection by EOC

Jacob Blom of the insurance company EOC inspects the hull of the Wynpûster on 1 February 2023.

The bottom of our new barge ‘Wynpûster’ has been approved. For insurance purposes, the bottom has to be at least 3 mm thick and it turned out that the hull is still 4 mm thick on average. So in 100 years 1 mm worn out. Turns out to be a good buy!
